Lots of us are living life large but can’t find the large clothing we need to match our lifestyle.
Most fashion retailers and brands call ‘large clothing’ UK women’s size 16 and over or men’s chest size 46″ (117 cms) or over.
Large generally relates to body size rather than height, and is often termed ‘plus sized’ for women and ‘wide’ or ‘broad’ for men.
Shoppers often find high street retailers have a limited stock of outsize clothing and resort to online shopping, where they can find many specialist shops selling the latest styles and trends from top designer brands.
Sometimes, the mark up on the price is higher, although the reasoning is not logical – for instance if you went in to a store to buy a UK size 10 (Europe 38) or size 14 (Europe 42) outfit, the prices would probably be the same, so why a size 18 should cost more is puzzling.
Many of the high street stores are realising that selling bigger sizes that make curvy women and broad men look smart is good for their bottom line.
This translates in to lots more choice online than in store with the effect that larger customers are banished from the stores for some reason but are welcome as virtual visitors to the same firms’ on line shops.
The choice of fashions is massive – browsing from store to store, shoppers of any size can pick up bargain outfits for casual lounging around, work, going out or special occasions.
This includes bridal wear from Evans and dress suits and shirts for men from High & Mighty.
For curvy women, try shopping at Dorothy Perkins and Yours Clothing.
Broad might look at WalkTall or the up and coming new site for men Jacamo.
