NBC’s Matt Lauer was granted a rare media interview with grammy-award winner Adele about her astonishing music career, and her rise to fame for a special called ‘Adele: Live in London.’ The show was broadcast on the 5th June and also featured footage from her concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London last September. The show was a huge hit, attracting 6.2m viewers to the network, showing that Adele is as popular as ever.
Adele has been featured in Entertainment Weekly where she was placed at the top of the list of ‘30 Greatest Artists Right Now.’ The CEO said of the album 21 “When everybody heard the record, they knew it was special.” The rest of America seems to agree! The 6.2 million viewers that tuned into the NBC interview is certainly evidence that she is at the top of her game! However, the fame is not going to Adele’s head. She is still a private person. She told Matt Lauer that “I just want to make music, I don’t want people to talk about me. All I’ve ever wanted to do was sing. I don’t want to be a celebrity. I don’t want to be in people’s faces, you know, constantly on covers of magazine that I haven’t even known I’m on.” She told Matt Lauer that she was even able to walk around Trafalgar square in brightly coloured pajamas and no one realized it was her. “I had floral tracksuit bottoms on and this massive green coat and some little pink pumps. Luckily …I was really scared but I had this massive umbrella. Nobody recognised me. A couple looked round but they were like no, she’s in colour and what would she be doing in Trafalgar Square on a Saturday in pyjamas?”

Adele’s album 21 has lyrics which really bare her soul as she describes her break up with her previous boyfriend. Yet it is this soulful honesty that has assured the albums global acclaim. Matt Lauer asked her if she would like to take any of it back to which she replied “Yeah, it’s hard…I do wish I’d kept a lot of things to myself, but I never knew the album was going to be so big. I will be more wary when I go into things now.” She continued “In the songs I can still be really really direct but in interviews when I’m explaining my songs I shouldn’t be so direct about who they’re about.”
Adding a lighter hearted note to the interview, Adele told Matt Lauer that she wore several pairs of Spanx to the Grammy’s after passing out in the dress she had planned to wear due to the body shaping corset. But she revealed that she didn’t take to the stage to sing in them all and said: “I took a couple of pairs off.”
