Hitting the headlines today is the fact that British women are the ‘fattest’ in Europe. Figures released by the European Commission showed that nearly a quarter (23.9%) of women in the UK were obese in 2008/09. This compares to 21.1% in Malta who were 2nd on the obesity table and 15.7% in Slovakia who were last on the table. The National Audit Office estimates that obesity causes at least 30,000 deaths a year in the UK, through conditions such as cancer, heart disease, strokes and diabetes. In fact, Health Secretary Andrew Lansley has just announced the launch a new “ambition” to bring down England’s obesity levels by 2020 and said people need to be honest with themselves about how much they eat and drink. He believes overall, Britons should be eating five billion fewer calories a day than at present.

UK women are the most obese in Europe: Can Japan offer a solution?
‘Fat Talk’ is damaging to our self esteem
We all do it don’t we? Does my bum look fat in this? God I feel so fat today… No matter what size we are, we engage in what anthropologist Mimi Nichter calls ‘fat talk.’ I ask my boyfriend most mornings ‘how fat do I look in this?’ (To which he normally replies “well you are not thin!”). You hear colleagues at work ask each other if they look fat in a particular dress. Women frequently discuss the parts of their body they are NOT happy with be it thighs, bum, tits, hips, and so on. But why do we do it to ourselves?
Black Friday UK 2011: Plus size fashion deals we like
What ever is popular in the US always seems to travel the Atlantic back to the UK. And Black Friday is no exception. However, the UK seem to have developed the idea more into their own, abandoning the Black Friday tag which was popular last year in favour of discount codes and Autumn/Winter collection sales. Originally Black Friday was a major sales day in stores in the US which marked the start of Christmas, following Thanks Giving. But…what can we Brits expect from Black Friday UK 2011?

But, Russell proceeded further in the competition than he expected and finished on a dream, dancing at Wembley Arena in his home county.
