Adele was a definite winner at the MTV Videos Music Awards last night. Out of the 7 nominations she received, Adele won best art direction, best cinematography and best editing for her video Rolling in The Deep. She looked very sophisticated on the night wearing a Burberry black dress with a decorative colourful neckline which was paired with elegant black pumps with a gold trim. Her hair was amazing in a 60s wave style. Adele wore another stunning signature black dress when she sung Someone Like You at the award ceremony.

American Apparel launch new plus size range and The Next Big Thing model competition
American Apparel is a well known brand in America and are spreading across the world. They have 13 stores in the UK alone and an online store. They sell modern basics and are well known for their brightly coloured leggings and T-shirts. However, until recently they did not offer a plus size range claiming it was not part of their demographic. But they have just launched a plus size range in XL or an American size 12 (UK size 16). Unsurprisingly, this move has caused controversy due to the XL size not being a plus size, their motivation for launching the size, and the model competition ‘The Next Big Thing’ to promote the new size.

Nigella Lawson, queen of food porn and guest editor for Stylist
Nigella Lawson, the iconic voluptuous television cook, is famed not just for her title of ‘Queen of Food Porn’ but also for being a curvy woman who ignores constant references to her shapely figure. However, Nigella is not happy being a poster woman for the larger female figure as she is not always happy with the ways she looks although she admits to not wanting to be skinny. Indeed, she has felt very insecure about her looks in the past making her introverted.
Beautiful Magazine on sale at Tesco
Have you discovered the glossy Beautiful Magazine yet? This fab new glossy magazine is the first of its type in the UK to be ‘totally dedicated to building self esteem and reversing the damage done by traditional women’s media and advertising, which have eroded women’s self worth over the last two decades.’ Beautiful Magazine makes a stand against magazines that promote images of skinny women and print articles about dieting and how to achieve the skinnier look. To do this they promise amongst other things to only to use models that are a size 12 and over, not to talk about weight loss, and showcase sexy and accessible fashion. Intrigued? This magazine is now available this summer in Tesco for the special price of £2.75 (usual price £3.96).
Boden launches Petite range (and has some good news for curvy and tall women too)
Whilst in the press and media emphasis seems to be on the fuller figure and the taller woman, shorter women seem to get little look in. Are you petite? How many times have you shopped on the high street for a petite range to find a limited rack at the back of the shop? And online merely lip service is paid to the shorter woman. So, it is with great excitement that I have discovered Boden at www.boden.co.uk (one of my fave brands btw) now offer a petite range.
