It is that time of year again when parents need to get their children ready for the new school year, and all the expense that involves. Buying school uniform can be a daunting task especially if you are trying to find plus size boys school fashion. In the main, the boys’ school uniform will consist of a pair of black or grey trousers, a shirt or polo shirt, a jumper, and maybe a blazer. Often, especially primary schools hold a stock of polo shirts so that is one less thing to worry about. However, where to get the trousers from (and can one buy them with hole resistant knees?!)?
Children’s clothes are mostly sized in ages which are not always appropriate for the plus size boy. Of course, it is always possible to buy an age or two up but as they get older this does not work. More shops on the high street are addressing this problem including Marks and Spencer. Marks and Spencer Plus Fit Stain Defence Non Iron Trousers are larger sized trousers which are treated with Stain Defence™ and Stormwear™ technologies, so they repel water and stains. They’re non-iron for convenience and good value at only £3.50-£4.50. For the older plus size boy select trousers from the big and tall range. Trousers start at a 29” leg to a 33” leg with a 30” waist to a 48” waist. The Big and Tall Flat Front Lightweight Resistant Trousers are ideal at £19.50. If you buy two pairs you get £9.00 off. Also, for the older boy, Marks and Spencer Blue Harbour range offer a selection of Polo Shirts in varying colours including white in Small to XXXLarge from £12.00. And at the moment there is a deal on polo shirts. If you buy two at £12.00 each, pay only £18.00!
Boden stock a back to school range but it is for boys who do not wear a school uniform. However, their Authentic Chinos are available in navy in sizes up to 14 years and with an adjustable inside waist band could be an ideal solution for the plus size boy. At £22.00 they are also reasonably priced.
A school classic has always been the Farah Trouser, available in several styles and lengths from a 29” leg and a 32” waist. They are not only very fashionable but are suitable for the older plus size boys going back to school. They are available from Clifford James and JD Williams.
La Redoute offers a range of clothes to fit up to 18 years of age including fuller and generous fit styles suitable for plus size boys. Unfortunately the trousers are in a jeans style however they may be suitable for some schools. A good example of a trouser on offer is the ACTIVE WEAR Teens Straight Jeans to suit fuller builds. With cool leather patch detail and adjustable waist with buttoned inside elastic up to size 162 cm in 100% cotton denim. I hope this selection has given you some ideas and if anyone does find that pair of trousers with the hole resistant knee please let me know!
