Beth Ditto has been in the news a lot recently as she does the rounds of interviews on radio and TV in the UK. Not only is Beth Ditto a rock chic and style icon, she is also a fat activist and plus size icon for all ages. Her collaboration with Evans was so innovative it paved the way for other amazing plus size collaborations and opportunities for other plus size stars to create their own lines.
But will Beth Ditto be working with Evans on another new collection any time in the future. Well, I don’t know, but maybe not…. Beth has just announced plans that she intends to create her own line of clothing: “the IKEA
of clothes for fat girls and boys.” She wants the line to be “Cheap, affordable, basic — but ethically made.” All sounds good. She intends the new collection of clothes to be basic to ensure its affordability, not quirky like the clothes we normally see her wearing. Whist Beth Ditto enjoyed collaborating with Evans on her punk inspired collections, she was not happy with the lack of input she had or the fact the cloths were made in India. She is looking forward to creating her own collection so she can “do whatever the f*** I want with it.” Talking to America’s entertainment site vulture.com, Beth also admitted to another dream, of opening a high end online vintage store where shoppers could see how outfits would look on bodies of all shapes and sizes.
What do you think of the concept of an affordable but basic line of clothing from Beth Ditto? Do you think it will take off or do you think it is the quirky style of Beth that people want to buy in to?
