Back to school fashion for tall girls: uniforms and beyond
As a child at school I do not remember standing out as being particularly short – just a normal height. I do remember my best friend being particularly tall. She was an excellent athlete I am sure due to her long legs (and stamina) and represented the UK at the Sydney 2000 Olympics! As for me many years on, and now a teacher of secondary children, I am one of the shortest girls in the classroom. Have children got taller over the years? Both boys and girls from the age of 13 tower over me and what is scary is they are still growing!

Typically, children’s clothes are sized by their age which therefore means an average has been calculated by some whiz designer which does not take into account that actually children come in different shapes and sizes and grow at different rates. This is further complicated if a school uniform is very specific in its colour scheme and style. Generally, it is easier for a younger child to buy up an age or more and adjust hems accordingly. However, when the teenage years surface, it becomes a minefield! Teenagers want to follow their own style whilst parents have very different ideas.
