SimplyBe [site: www.simplybe.co.uk] is part of the N Brown trading group which is the most successful direct home shopping company in the UK. The group was first established in 1882 and was the first company to send their goods using the postal system. SimplyBe offer fashionable plus size clothes to women their 30’s and up.

In 2009 when their online sales were continuing to rise at a rate of 40% and retail growth was at a credit crunch defying 9%, SimplyBe tested the international market by launching in Germany.

This year the SimplyBe profits have risen by 13% and now they plan to launch in the USA where they hope to share 22 billion pounds plus size US market.

They plan to launch onto the plus size US market in July and target 1 million potential customers with their 48 page catalogue in August.

N Brown told Reuters “The key will be how quickly we can build that customer base up,”

The plus size US market launch will be a trial, following the successful trial in Germany, and only cost N Brown less than 1 million pounds. The low cost of the launch will be helped by the fact that all American orders will be dealt with from the UK thus cutting costs of setting up in the US.

N Brown believes that SimplyBe will target the older women’s plus size US market, something that is not being done at the moment.

An analyst from Shore Capital, Kate Calvert believes N Brown “is well positioned with limited competition in the outsize market to take advantage of changing demographics.”

In the UK, N Brown has weathered the recession better than most retailers, helped by its position in the market. Its customers, with an average age of 57, tend to have stable incomes. Now N Brown hopes that launching onto the plus size US market will further strengthen their brand.

First, what is a blog? It is a word we hear a lot without necessarily knowing what a blog is and how it differs from a website. A Blog is an online log or diary or ‘web log’ hence then shortened to Blog. Blogging has evolved over the years and tools such as WordPress have become more sophisticated. Wikepedia writes: a blog has ‘regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse-chronological order. “Blog” can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.’ A blog is different from a website in general as content to a website is not added on a regular basis by different bloggers or posters and users cannot leave comments.

As plus size fashion is finding its place in the market so to are plus-size fashion blogs. Many online stores such as Yours Clothing, Curvety, and Marisota are including blogs on their websites to allow regular posts offering fashion advice and news about their brands and to allow their customers to make comments and leave feedback.

Simply Be has released some “trend ticking tunics” that are perfect for the coming Autumn.

These tunics, worn with jeans or leggings, loose or with a waist-cinching belt, are just some of the ways these gorgeous tunics can be worn.

The tunics include block colours, patterns and prints.

My favourite from the “trend ticking tunics” is this bright coloured print one.

The mixture of colours ensure you make a statement, and the tunic is the perfect length to be worn over leggings or over jeans without looking frumpy.

Because there are so many colours in the tunic, you can also wear this tunic with navy or white leggings.

The print that sits on the pattern perfectly contrasts it, so it ends up looking really good rather than there is too much going on.

£35 is a very reasonable price for such a lovely tunic.

Another pretty tunic is this royal blue one.

The jersey fabric is completely machine washable, and the tunic is also available in a bright yellow, although this royal blue is my favourite.

The tunic ties at the bottom, creating a slimming and toning effect.

The split shoulders show off arms – perfect if you’ve just come back from holiday nice and bronzed!

Worn with black leggings will also reduce the width of your thighs and calves, creating an overall slimming effect on your body.

This stud embroidered jersey tunic is perfect for that casual day out.

The studs keep this tunic on trend, as does the lovely pattern that is mirrored on both the sleeves.

Mica Paris launches her collection at SimplyBe

New for autumn 2009 Mica Paris, well known soul singer and broadcasting star, has teamed up with Simply Be as their new celebrity fashion designer. Her debut collection “All Woman” expresses her infatuation with fashion and passion for life.

In 2008 she published her first book ‘Beautiful Within’ which was inspired when she presented ‘What Not to Wear’ in a bid to inspire confidence and self esteem in women. Now with this new collection Mica hopes to be “able to help the women I hear talk about not being able to get a fashionable outfit in their size. Now I can tell them where to find it!” Mica’s attitude to life is ‘be passionate, be positive’ which is reflected in the collection.

Mica does not consider herself as a designer. She has put together a collection of clothes that she feels thinks will look good in sizes up to 32. Mica Paris has based her new collection on clothes that she herself would want to wear. Indeed, she told Simply Be that she would not be without the collection in her own wardrobe, saying “It’s so easy to wear and with my schedule being so hectic sometimes I need to get ready really quickly!” In order to put this versatile and stunning collection together, Simply Be met with Mica to see what she would want in her range and what type of clothes inspired her. Mica and the designers then got together to design and produce the range.

The new collection by Mica Paris consists of 15 inspiring items available in sizes 14 – 32. Anna Scholz designs “curvaceous couture” in sizes 12-28 to help you to celebrate your curves and feel great. In a recent interview in the Telegraph Anna says “The style is sexy, funky and directional, We are not scared of strapless. We offer maxi dresses, cashmere and leather. Our necklines plunge. And we are not worried about showing off curves. Or a big leg. We don’t cut broader for a bigger bottom. We cut to achieve a slimline look rather than a boxy silhouette.” The new collection from Anna Scholz is available at Simply Be and Marisota.

The ethos behind the new range is “Celebratory rather than apologetic” The highly trendy range includes embroidered trousers, layered skirts, prom dresses, frilly jackets, sexy waistcoats, lacey blouses, sequined kaftans, and knitted tunics.

Anna has used autumnal colours and blacks in her new range of tops, with close attention to detail in the design of the cut, print, and embellishments. The Sequin Kaftan in purple with large brown flower print has sequin trim on the neckline creating a trendy gypsy look. The new collection includes a range of dresses from prom to maxi. Anna Scholz has continued the lace theme with the Prom Dress. This sexy dress has thin adjustable straps and a tight bodice and full skirt which falls gracefully just below the knee. The dress is of lace effect with a contrast lining. The Maxi Dress is made from a luxurious stretchy fabric. It has a low cut neck line which is lined with lace and embellished with oval stone detail. The high waist gives way to a long flowing skirt. The sleeves are ¾ length and off the shoulder with shoulder straps. For less formal wear the Print Dress is stunning. Again it has a high waist and the skirt falls to the calves. The neckline has contrasting V neck detail with a black tie at the back. The sleeves are cut away off the shoulder.

The Frill Jacket in leather effect is available in black or purple. It is very stylish with zip fastening and frill detail.

Gok Wan’s lingerie and media empire

Gok Wan is a British fashion consultant, author and television presenter.

With his personality and charm, Gok has worked with many celebrities, and his fashion advice has appeared in magazines internationally, including; Tatler, Glamour, Cosmopolitan, Marie Claire, Clash and People.
