The Edinburgh Evening News has just announced that Edinburgh College of Art has become the first fashion school in the UK to introduce size 18 plus size mannequins to train the designers of the future. So, there is hope yet that plus size fashion will become part of the mainstream providing the latest styles and fashions.
The move to using plus size mannequins at Edinburgh College of Art has been backed by the All Walks Centre for Diversity project. The step towards using plus size mannequins is in recognition of the fact that women are becoming curvier and more relaxed with fuller figures.
‘ECA students have already designed regular and plus-sized dresses for a variety of live models to be unveiled at the official campaign launch in London this week and the college will soon receive its new mannequins.’ Caryn Franklin, the founder of All Walks hope the move will encourage new designers to become more versatile in creating clothes for all sizes.
‘Co-founder Debra Bourne told the Evening News: “With many young designers, people cannot fit their arm into the armhole. This is not just anti-size zero.”
