European men’s magazine Fantastic Man has, for its latest issue, featured some gorgeous male plus size models in various states of undress this summer.
With male mannequins slimming down drastically this season, it is refreshing to see some male plus size models featured in a popular magazine.
The British magazine racks are saturated with size zero women and almost hulk-like men who are bulked up to the max.
Both in these magazines, and in the mainstream media, male plus size models have barely reared their heads.
Whilst it is fantastic that there have been some genuine developments and progress made with plus size models getting more involved and known in the plus size fashion industry, this has unfortunately only been directed at female plus size models.
Male plus size models have been pushed to the edge, with not nearly as much popularity or limelight work as their female counterparts.
The feature in Fantastic Man has received a lot of positive feedback on the internet, and it’s good to see that men feel the same – regular people are sick and tired of seeing stick thin models (both male and female), that increasingly put pressure on the population to conform to an unhealthy size.
This doesn’t mean that I believe people should throw their healthy lifestyles out the window and don the sofa with a pile of junk food in one hand and the TV remote in the other, but at the same the result of the opposite end of the spectrum – i.e. being too thin – is just as harmful.
Many people who have been brainwashed by this size zero mentality see a model with a healthy bit of extra weight and are immediately up in arms – branding them ‘obese’, ‘disgusitng’ and ‘unhealthy’.
In my opinion, I much rather prefer a man with a healthy sized belly to him, with big thighs.
Men are supposed to be men – and to me that isn’t achieved by trying to diet and slim down to the point that they become too skinny and obsessive about their weight.
There is nothing less attractive than a man who is counting calories and constantly talking about how to lose weight – be comfortable in your own skin, like these men in Fantastic Man demonstrate, and I guarantee you you will lead a much happier life.
