Fashion Week has been an annual event for years, however with over 40 million American women in a size 14 or more, the fashion week catwalk does not represent the real woman with its skinny models. Full Figured Fashion Week is set to change this with one successful event in 2009 and another event scheduled for the 16th – 19th June 2010 in New York.
The Full Figured Fashion Week is an event that will not only showcase plus size designs, talented designers, retailers, local boutiques and “real size” models, but also promote economic development in the area of plus size fashion design, clothing retail and plus modeling. The event will also create a networking opportunity for designers, boutiques, and other businesses. It is hoped the three day event will attract an audience of more than 1500 plus size fashion devotees.
Full Figured Fashion Week will be partnering with the charity Dress for Success who promotes economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.
The Action packed 2010 event will include a young designer’s showcase, discussion panels, a big and tall male fashion show, shopping events, exhibitions, and a grand finale. At the moment Full Figured Fashion Week are looking for new up and coming designers to take part in the showcases and plus size models.
You can follow Full Figured Fashion Week on Twitter and Facebook to get all the latest updates and bookmark their website (currently still in construction for 2010 but still worth a look at): www.fffweek.com.
it should not be called ‘full figured’ fashion week, but Fashion week or ‘Real women” fashion week. then we can change the current fashion week to ‘twiggy’ fashion week
