Gok Wan has been very busy this last year opening up a number of new projects.
One of his latest projects is a campaign with Debenhams to see them using models that are all shapes and sizes, and with disabilities too.
The store has even committed to using disabled models in future campaigns as well.
Disabled model Shannon Murray is to feature in a new fashion campaign for Principles.
Shannon models the Principles by Ben de Lisi range in a photography campaign to appear in the windows of Debenhams and online.
Other women that will be featured in the campaign include size 16 model Kate Fullman, 5’4″ model Tess Montgomery and size 10 model Tokumbo Daniel.
The intention will be to extend the campaign to all stores.
The campaign is in partnership with Gok Wan’s television show “How To Look Good Naked”.
Gok’s campaign has been received very well by fans, and is a step in the right direction in getting ‘real’ model into the fashion industry.
Another project that Gok Wan has recently announced is his plans to write a ‘painful’ autobiography.
Wan, who has admitted that he was bullied as a teenager, said: “There’s a lot to tell, some of it still painful, but I think it will be all worth it and prove a revealing, entertaining and above all inspirational read.”
The autobiography is expected to hit the shelves in September, and the editor at Ebury has claimed that the book will be a big Christmas hit.
Two months ago the stylist launched his revamped TV series on Channel 4, “How to Look Good Naked With a Difference”. This is the show that focuses on women with disabilities for the first time.
Gok Wan is also going to take a trip down to Wrexham to rate the town’s fashion hits and misses next month.
He will be holding ‘open auditions’, asking the residents of Wrexham to bring in items from their wardrobes that he can look at.
Then he will make the decision on who should undergo a full fashion makeover.
The stylist is apparently on a mission to banish the nation’s wardrobe disasters and is travelling round the country to find the woman or man who needs his help the most.
Wrexham is one of the first places Gok will be going to, but he will continue to visit other towns.
