H&M Inclusive is a new capsule range of limited pieces that will be available exclusively online from H&M [site: www.hm.com] this spring (early March). ‘This will be a one-off collection of colourful and feminine fashion with lots of attitude in a wider than usual range of sizes. The twenty pieces will be available in sizes 6-28 and will be sold exclusively through H&M Online from early March. The collection includes figure-flattering party dresses in 50’s styles with large polka dots and rose patterns, as well as skirts, tops, cardigans and lingerie following the same theme.’
This collection is likely to sell fast so you will have to be ready!
H&M already offer a plus size range called BiB in sizes 18 to 28. The clothes have been specifically designed to meet the needs of the plus size figure to create a flattering look. Whilst the prices are very reasonably priced, the collection is very limited to basic casual wear.
H&M Inclusive offers the plus size shopper a more glamorous selection of on trend fashion for day and evening wear this Spring and Summer. However, the clothes have been designed for women wearing a size 6 and up, making no adjustments for the requirements of a fuller figure.
Many plus size bloggers are not happy that the design of the clothes pays little regard to the differences of women in a size 6 to a woman in a size 20.
A Well-Rounded Venture feel the collection is insulting because of the title “Inclusiveâ€, continuing: “Honestly, if it was named anything else I wouldn’t be writing this. Am I putting too much stock in the name of their collection? Possibly, but it is arrogant and rude to proclaim this era of inclusivity when they are far from it.†www.awellroundedventure.com
Blogger Pocket Rocket Fashion believes the move by H&M is a positive one demonstrating that it is possible for retailers to be inclusive in their fashion offering by including larger sizes within their range. “The very idea that women of a range of sizes, from skinny to fat can wear the same clothes and it’s not something to be feared or repulsed by, but a fun way of sharing the love of fashion, is so refreshingly positive I can barely deal.†www.pocketrocketfashion.com
Plus size ladies in America also believe the collection to be great! The Curvy Fashionita has given the capsule collection a thumbs up as have her readers with one commenter claiming “I would snap this up in a second if it was offered in the US.†www.the curvyfashionita.com
And another blogger, Curvy Katie, feels that H&M are stepping in the right direction saying with the H&M Inclusive collection “I am really excited to see H&M doing something different and attempting to cater to a bigger audience (I mean that in more ways than one), … granted there are many women who will left out of this.†www.curvykatie.worpress.com
Perhaps one of the biggest disappointments then is that the H&M Inclusive collection is only available for a limited time and available online only. This is a disadvantage to many would be shoppers as H&M only deliver in particular countries such as the Nordic countries, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, and the UK.
What do you think of the H&M Inclusive collection? Do you believe it to be a positive move from H&M or do you, like others, believe the collection to be far from Inclusive?

I think it is such a great step and makes a big difference and actually that is just what I want, to be no longer separated into groups of straight and plus sizes. Telling that it is not so easy to just expand a collection, because woman in bigger sized come in much more different shapes than women in straight sizes do, is one of the most stupid arguments that a retailer can bring. Just like it annoys me that people are always just seeing the “not-so-good” things. I mean I would never thought that H&M would make something like this, even if it is just online and time limited. It is a great way for them to test out how many woman really want fashionable plus size clothing, so really hope their selling numbers explode so maybe one day I do not longer need to walk through my local H&M store & keep crying about all this beautiful stuff from their normal and divided range, that just goes up to a size 42.
For those of us around US straight size 16, this is wonderful news. There aren’t a lot of lines that cover our size range (outside The Gap). Many lines stop at 14, and plus size clothes often don’t fit us properly, precisely because they are shaped differently, not just sized up proportionally.
Just wanted to say that it’s A Well Rounded Venture not All Round Venture..
@Elizabeth, oops. Thank you. Have updated article with correct name.
I think its great! I bought a couple of dresses and also the off-white cardigan and it fits me (size 22) very well. Some of my classmates and girlfriends who have a size 8 or 10 did had complains about it. They said the skirts of the dresses looked like lampshades on their “skinny” legs and the sleeves & cupsizes where to big for them.
That just sounds like a perfect plussize fit for me! Just ones a group of skinny girls where jealous of my figure, that felt nice
