Huge, a new TV show about at a weight-loss summer camp
June 26, 2010 by Angela
Huge is a new ten part drama based on a weight-loss summer camp and it being shown on ABC. The show debuts on the 28th June 2010. Originally written as a film by Savannah Dooley based on a book by Sasha Paley but not made, the writer took the script to ABC and persuaded them to run it as a series without a pilot.
The drama follows the lives of seven teens and staff at a weight-loss summer camp. The drama hopes to be funny and thought provoking as teens and staff discover their true selves and each other.
“In Huge, Nikki Blonsky will portray Willamina, a teen whose sardonic and rebellious nature make her a menace to some and revolutionary to others. Additional cast include Zander Eckhouse as George, Harvey Guillen as Alistair, Ari Stidham as Ian, Ashley Holliday as Chloe and Hayley Hasselhoff as Amber.”
The writers and directors involved in this series have between them a huge catalogue of success stories such as “thirty something”, “Gossip Girl”, “The Vampire Diaries”, the list continues; so it is no wonder ABC did not need a pilot before committing to the show.
And of course, we will all recognize Nikki Blonsky from the successful film Hairspary. She will be playing the character Willamena Rader.
Another well known face that will be in the series is plus size teen model and daughter of David Hasselhoff, Hayley Hasselhoff. Hayley will be playing the character of Amber.
This new one hour drama series is set to be a success. Most of the starts are overweight and they all have leading roles. “I’ve never seen a show where it’s more than one overweight person in the cast,” Ms. Dooley said. “They’re the sidekick, or maybe they end up with their own little chubby counterpart at the end. They’re always very ghettoized.” Huge is not like that.
