Plus-size model Crystal Renn appears to have dropped a couple of sizes and her fans have been in uproar over yet again controversial weight lose.
Why, the fans want to know, is the woman who has become the face and body of the average size woman shrinking?
Gary Dakin, her Ford Models agent, has confirmed that she is not trying to lose weight at all.
Gary Dakin has always been applauded in the plus size community for his outspoken, positive views on plus size models and curvy women.
He stressed that Crystal Renn has always fluctuated between a size 10-14 (UK sizes).
The plus size model went on holiday for 3 weeks, where she went hiking in Patagonia.
This was the holiday that saw her increasingly lose some weight and firm up.
It seems like no matter what this model does – her fans are never happy.
She is constantly being criticised for every decision she makes with regards to weight – if she’s looking thin the fans say she is not staying true to being a plus size model – if she is looking larger they say that isn’t really a plus size model at all, and isn’t large enough to represent the plus size community.
Even Dakin himself said that when the model travels around, she has a natural tendency to lose a bit of weight.
Tongues first began wagging in May when Renn appeared on the runway for Karl Lagerfield’s Chanel cruise show in Saint Tropez.
Many began whispering that she was losing her signature curves.
In a photoshoot at the beginning of the month Crystal Renn was still a solid size 10 -and her measurements were still a 39-40 hip.
I think the real issue here is that Crystal Renn’s weight shouldn’t even be discussed like this, and be ‘big news’.
The fact that it is demonstrates that plus size models/plus sizes are still nowhere near as prominent and influential in the fashion industry.
A lot of internet bloggers and ‘fans’ only follow Crystal Renn because she represents the plus size community – with many commenting that if she lost weight she wouldn’t get as many jobs as she currently gets.
In my opinion, the model is an excellent role model, promoting healthy living, exercise and a balanced lifestyle.
She should be appreciated for her commitment and contributions to society, not criticized over every changing pound.
