Crystal Renn is a plus size model from America. She is the only Plus Size Model to have appeared in Harpers Magazine and she is a regular model for the Spanish Mango fashion label. Six years ago Crystal Renn was an unknown model fitting into 0 size clothes. However, the pressure of keeping so small was making her very unhealthy and if she had continued she would have become very ill, maybe even died. She took the decision that her health was more important than her size and since then has become one of the most well known plus size models. At 23 she wrote her autobiography, Hungry, which dipicts her struggle and challenges the modelling and fashion industry. “It’s simply bizarre that ‘normal’ is the new overweight,” she wrote in her memoir Hungry . “We’ve seen that super-skinny women can be as unhappy as the fattest fat girl. We know how awful it is to obsess about every calorie. We’ve just opted not to make ourselves crazy.”
Miss Dirty Martini, originally from Manhattan, claims to be the first ever fan dancer who preformed in post war Bosnia. She is a well known voluptuous performer in America. Indeed, in Manhattan she is famous for her balloon striptease, fan dance, dance of the several veils, shadow strip, and other classic Burlesque acts. But what is Burlesque? It literally means “to satirize” or “to make fun of.” It is used today to refer to the revival of an American theatrical tradition brought from England in the 1800’s. It has since evolved into a variety show format characterized by bawdy scantily-clad dancing girls and striptease acts. Miss Dirty Martini is now the featured performer at the VaVaVoom Room and performs every summer in Coney Island at “Burlesque by the Beach”. She has appeared in many photo shoots and several books about the art.
