PHAT magazine is one of the first print and online fashion magazine that caters to real size women.
It features women with ‘real’ sized bodies – showcasing them as edgy and fashion forward.
Le’Ticia Fisher is the editor and chief of PHAT magazine.
In a recent interview Le’Ticia Fisher was asked what inspired her to start PHAT magazine, especially when she normally works with smaller sized models.
She replied:
“I would have to say that my love of fashion is what really inspired me to start a edgy fashion magazine that caters to the plus women. Fashion is limitless. Being small or big, we are all apart of the fashion world, and at the end of the day that is what drives me.”
Fisher believes that too many magazines try to impress readers by doing a plus size spread once every blue moon in order to try to expand their reading base and prove that they are taking plus size fashion seriously.
For Fisher, this is not enough, and hence the desire to create a magazine that was featuring plus size women 100% on the time.
Just as a side note: the cover featured above is a teaser from a website – it is not the real one.
Fisher also assures readers that PHAT magazine will be unlike any other of the plus size magazines currently floating around – saying you need to pre-order your first copy as the issue will speak for itself.
The cost of the print magazine will be $15, but it will also be available online for free.
The official website is currently under construction, but there is plenty of information about the magazine currently on the net.
There has been a lot of positive anticipation for the magazine by users on the internet – and it looks like it is set to be a huge success.
Out of all the examples we are currently seeing in the media of attempts to take plus size fashion seriously (i.e. Debenhams using some plus size models in its campaign etc.) PHAT magazine seems to be the best example yet that the plus size fashion industry is surging forward.
The release of this beautiful magazine has proved that plus size fashion is important, and does matter.
I went looking for a website for this magazine and couldn’t find one? I did find an adult site by the same name…that was painful.
I was doing a survey for Torrid stores. It asked what magazines I read, and it listed Phat. I am looking for the magazine, but all I have found is this link site. Does this magazine actually exist? If it does, how can I get it?
