The the plus size clothes’ industry is the fastest growing clothing market in the UK. There are over sixty brands for plus-size women’s clothing sold there. High-street chain stores such as Evans (link: www.evans.co.uk), SimplyBe (link: www.simplybe.co.uk), Feminine Plus (link: www.feminineplus.com) and Ann Harvey (link: www.annharvey.co.uk) sell only plus-sized garments, and many other brands and department stores carry extended sizes in their shelves, such as Debenhams (link: www.debenhams.com) and New Look (link: www.newlook.com).

But it’s not enough to just have a wide choice of clothing, you need to know what suits your body type. So it would be easier for you to determine what would look best on you, we have gathered a little check list for you:

1. Determine your body type. As you might know, the most common types are apple and pear-shaped bodies. Apple-shaped people carry their weight in their top half, while the pear-shaped people carry their weight in their bottom part, mainly hips and thighs.

2. Choose the right tops and jackets. If you are pear-shaped, you should wear more bright colored tops, they help to bring attention to your smaller part, which is the top half. Also, wearing too tight tops is not a good option, you should go with something that has ruffles or embellishments. The same for the jackets – choose the ones that have rich textures. The opposite if you are apple-shaped, you should wear more simple clothes on your top half and stay away from too heavy double-button jackets.

3. Choose the right bottoms. If you are apple-shaped, you should choose straight skirts and pants. However, the more detail the better since this would help distract attention from your upper body. If you are pear-shaped, A-line skirts and dresses are the pieces you should wear. And unlike apple-shaped, you should stay away from pants with many details.

4. Choose the clothes that fit. Perhaps the most important tips is this: don’t wear a piece that is too tight and therefore highlights your problem areas. This would only work against your efforts to look flattering.
