Is it just me and my network of friends or have you noticed an influx of plus size images on Facebook? It started a couple of weeks back with an image from 2010 of Tara Lynn sitting in a chair in the nude. You know the image? Then just last week another image appeared with a row or curvy beauties from the Marilyn Monroe era compared with models of today. Finally, today, another image appeared comparing a health guru to the food lover, Nigellea Lawson.

Tara Lynn
The first of the plus size images was an image of Tara Lynn which was circulating amongst my Spanish friends with the caption: Mermaid or Whale? A sign was noticed on a gym wall showing a spectacular woman and the words “this summer, do you want to be a mermaid or whale?” A reply was sent which went something like:
Dear Sirs, whales are always surrounded by friends (dolphins, seals, curious humans), they have an active sex life and raise their young with great affection. They have crazy fun with dolphins and eat shrimp. They swim all day and travel to fantastic places like Patagonia, the Barents Sea and the coral reefs of Polynesia. They sing beautifully and sometimes even burn CDs. These animals are amazing and very dear, which is defended and admired worldwide.
Mermaids do not exist. But is they did they would have no sex life and could not have children. They would be lonely and sad. And besides, who would want to be beside a girl who smells like fish?
Undoubtedly, I’d rather be a whale.
The conclusion on this image is that even though the media portray thin women as beautiful, surely it is better to eat ice cream with your kids, have dinner with your husband, and eat, drink and have fun with your friends.
The image portraying stars of the past as curvy beauties compared to the anorexic models of today is to promote a magazine article by Origin Magazine, soon to be published about eating disorders. However, this image has been a huge hit as many of my friends are sharing it on their walls as are many more.
Finally, today’s image is a classic! It shows 51 year old TV health guru Gillian McKeith next to 51 year old food loving Nigellea Lawson and says ‘I rest my case’. This image has had 18,923 shares!
