The mission of the International Size Acceptance Association (ISAA) is to promote size acceptance and fight size discrimination throughout the world by means of advocacy and visible, lawful actions. The ISAA defines size acceptance as acceptance of self and others without regard to weight or body size.
“Size acceptance UK” is about the fight against the anti fat bias which has dominated the fashion industry for generations. Fatima Parker of the International Size Acceptance Association said in one interview: “We’re not calling for people to be obese or couch potatoes. We just want people to recognise that you can be sexy or beautiful at any size. Our goal is health, not obesity.”
ISAA promote size acceptance and help end weight-based discrimination throughout the world. The ISAA was founded in 1997 in Austin, Texas and has branches on every throughout the world. ISAA in the UK was formed in 2001 by Fatima Parker.
Fatima sees herself as a role model, motivator, inspirational speaker and public figure. She has dedicated her life to helping women and children with issues of self-confidence and self-esteem.
The main concern of the ISAA Size acceptance UK at the moment is the funding of any initiatives about obesity. They believe that any funding concerning obesity should go towards helpful items such as large-size blood pressure cuffs to aid in proper diagnoses and treatments, armless seating for doctor’s offices and sensitivity training for medical staff and physicians to learn how to treat plus-sized patients with respect.
ISAA Size acceptance UK recommends the ‘Respect Fitness Health’ initiative, which encourages self-esteem, fitness and healthy food choices for people of all shapes and sizes…and Respect Fitness Health is free.
