As a child at school I do not remember standing out as being particularly short – just a normal height. I do remember my best friend being particularly tall. She was an excellent athlete I am sure due to her long legs (and stamina) and represented the UK at the Sydney 2000 Olympics! As for me many years on, and now a teacher of secondary children, I am one of the shortest girls in the classroom. Have children got taller over the years?  Both boys and girls from the age of 13 tower over me and what is scary is they are still growing!
