Have you been watching Candy Cabs? New to BBC, this three episode drama/comedy follows the launch of a new taxi service in the North of England exclusive to women! All in pink, the plot is reminiscent of Hattie Jacques Carry on Cabby. Candy Cabs sees a group of friends get together to set up their own taxi firm and follows their personal lives as well as their struggle to make a success of the business. Each episode finds the girls in comical yet touching situations as they fight to survive in a male dominated industry.
What I love about this series is that the characters represent true looking women. The well known cast includes Jo Joyner from Eastenders, Lisa Millett, Jodie Prenger, Melanie Hill who we saw in Bread, Claire Sweeney we all know first from Brookside, Lu Corfield and Danielle Henry. Claire Sweeney reached the Sun Newspaper last week for showing her curves as she stripped to her bra and knickers for her weekly weigh in at the Candy Cabs slimming club. The Sun reports ‘At the weigh-ins they have to peel off their clothes – with Claire and her co-stars giving viewers an eyeful.’ The weigh in scenes are tongue and cheek as they round down their weight and introduce ‘Slime Shakes’.
Claire Sweeney plays a Character called Amanda. Her character is a total man-eater but she is one of the girls too. She has lots of funny one liners and definitely brings a smile to your face. Melanie Hill plays Stella who has a bit of a gob on her! She is loud, brash, and scared of nobody. My favourite character though is Big Pam who is played by Lu Corfield. She is overweight but makes light of it, even down to her name Big Pam, which she laughs along with even though you can see she is not happy about it.
Finish tonight’s journey with Candy Cabs tonight at 9pm on BBC1, the last of the three part series. If you have not seen the others it is not too late to catch up with the girls exploits on BBC iPlayer. Here is a little taster:
