Tara Lynn, The Mechanic Video has hit the Hips and Curves website, but what do people make of it? Has it got you hot under the bonnet, or does it leave you feeling a little anti-climactic? We’ve watched the video a few times and still aren’t sure ourselves, but one thing is certain - Tara Lynn, the mechanic video has certainly got people talking!
Tara Lynn, the mechanic video (www.plus-size-tall.com/hc-tara) is a playful take on the story-led porn of the 70s. Instead of a damsel in distress driving her car to a mechanic with a large spanner in his hand, this is a modern take with a suitably retro kick. Although the advertorial has the feel of a low budget erotica video, it has clearly had a lot of money been spent on it, with perfect production values giving it that seedy, Vaseline lens feel. But does it ultimately want to make us purchase underwear?
The main issue with the video is that we don’t actually get a peek at the product until over 40 seconds in. And it is literally a flash under overalls – you can’t really get a feel for the underwear at all. It is almost two minutes into the three and a half minute video before the Ruffle Demi Bra and Stretch Satin Boyshorts become visible, by which point you feel distinctly underwhelmed. You’ve waited so long for a look at the glamorous undergarments which will knock his socks off, and what’s shown is more of a pretty but basic set for everyday wear. They just don’t warrant those two minutes you’ve lost trying to not feel violated by the man watching our mechanic undress from his car mirror!

The premise of the idea is cute, and the production is impeccable – there is no denying that they’ve done a good job with making a brilliant video. But does it work in terms of advertising? If the video manages to go viral, it will undoubtedly bring a lot of traffic to the Hips and Curves website, but if it is mostly viewed by their current audience rather than reaching out to a new one, the question is does it show them anything new. It’s fun and frivolous, but arguably with little use.
